Shortly after he recovered from his wounds sustained in Iraq during a Medevac mission, Gerald answered the call to respond to the Great Tsunami Disaster in Asia. Mr Flint lead an international team of medical volunteers — Volunteer Medics Worldwide to assist victims of the tsunami in Thailand and Sri Lanka. His team of volunteers provided rescue and recovery services as well as general health care, medications, eye glasses and other medical supplies to people of Thailand and Sri Lanka for several weeks from January to May 2005. Mr. Flint work was nonpaid volunteer service and he paid all transportation fees for the two separate missions to the Tsunami region. Over 1,000 hours of volunteer service perfomed.
Mr Flint also Had to do several weeks of Active Duty with the USAFR while serving as an Aeromedical Evacuation Technician overseas and here in the USA during the year of 2005. He duties were evacuation and treatment of wounded service members and diplomats from Afghanistan and Iraq to higher and safer levels of care in Germany and the USA.
July 10 , 2005 would see Mr Flint once again in action— civilian volunteer as he left within hours after Hurricane Dennis struck Western Florida. MR flint also being an FAA Certified/Licensed Pilot took part in Air Patrols, transportation of food, medicine and water to centers located in the disaster area. Gerald Flint volunteered and served over 150 nonpaid volunteer hours with local and state EMS teams rescuing and treating those affected by the Hurricane. If it needed to be done, he would volunteer and get it done!
August 29 shortly after leaving the hospital from another surgery to further repair his wounded right foot Mr Flint departed for Waveland, MS and New Orleans , LA to respond to Hurricane Katrina. Gerald Flint treated hundreds of victims of that great storm as was responsible for improving food and water distribution in the Waveland , MS area. His team lead rescue, comfort and feeding teams by caravan where others could not or would not go bringing lifesaving medicine, food and water to those in need. It should be noted that he used his own money for travel and purchase of materials donated to Katrina Victims. Over 200 hours of volunteer service performed.
Hurricane Rita struck Texas and Western Louisiana on September 23rd 2005 and Gerald was once again on his way to assist with emergency operations. He did everything from ACLS to helping put roofs back on homes and churches Texas and Louisiana. His foot wrapped heavily and often in great pain he looked around and saw many others who still needed whatever he could give and so he gave. Again, all expenses where paid from his private funds and he served over 160 nonpaid volunteer service hours.
November 2005 brought the deadliest tornados to hit Indiana in many years. The Evansville , IN community would see Gerald and several of his volunteers once again swing into action. Flight patrols were flown, medications and food transported and Aid Stations manned for countless hours on nonpaid volunteer service.
